Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It gives us great pleasure to invite you to Paris in 2005 for an active
participation to the 26th IBE/ ILAE International Epilepsy Congress. It
is both an honour and a challenge which has been offered to France by
the IBE and ILAE and is in recognition of the important contribution
French epileptology has made to the development of our discipline.
The tremendous amount of work provided by the epileptological community
during the last 20 years kindled the interest of physicians in general
and neurologists in particular in the epilepsy disorders. The 26th IEC
will be a forum to review and debate on the enormous amount of
knowledge that is accumulating at an increasing pace in order to offer
“A global approach to the epilepsy patient”.
The scientific programme will include both didactic lectures and
sessions or workshops on recent advances and will still be broad enough
to attract physicians, researchers, paramedics and social workers
active in the field of epilepsy but also those working in other fields
of Neurology, Child Neurology and Psychiatry.
Work has already begun to provide a comprehensive programme combining
clinical epileptology, fundamental research and social issues for each
selected topic. In addition, the Congress will also cover epilepsy
issues and those related to co-morbidity and seizures as a
manifestation of other neurological disorders.
France is a very attractive country and Paris a marvellous city. To
reduce “paroxysmal absenteeism” we deliberately have chosen end of
August as the most appropriate period. Delegates can offer their
families unforgettable pre-congress holidays in “the city of light” but
also in Marseille, Strasbourg, the Rhone or the Loire regions, the
wines of Bordeaux, a round-trip to Corsica or Normandy, the beaches of
Côte d’Azur or Bretagne, just to name some of the possibilities.
